GREG, WHAT’S THE ‘GREG REESE’ STORY? HOW DID YOU BUILD UP YOUR BUSINESS, AND WHAT MADE YOU BECOME A WEDDING PLANNER IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Having just celebrated our 10th business anniversary, “The years have gone by quickly, but when you love what you do, it’s not work…it’s more like a calling that I was destined to do”. Prior to becoming one of San Antonio’s premier event designers, my wife Lily and I owned and operated daycare centers. But even then we were planning different social events, not only our own wedding (with over 350 guests) but other celebrations for family and friends, a long the way as well. Looking to the future of what my wife and I wanted to do long-term, once our children were in college… for us it was only natural that the event industry would be our calling and thus Reese Events Group was born!
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR COMPANY.
Reese Events Group has a fulltime staff of 16 employees including not only my wife Lily, who runs our floral department, my son Ryan who handles operations along with lighting, and scenic drapery and my daughter Azenette handling wedding coordination and event production – logistics. Along with a team of passionate and dedicated individuals handling event planning – design & coordination, along with our own linens, furniture and rentals. That allow us the opportunity to design and produce our client’s dream weddings and/or over the top corporate and social events.
DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE AESTHETIC OR PERSONAL STYLE THAT YOU PUT INTO THE WEDDINGS YOU’VE PLANNED?
Absolutely … ever-timeless and classic style. “I love creating events that you can’t tell when they happened. There will always be trends and we will incorporate those, but our style remains timeless – classic and clean” We take care of everything and all the details involving all the decor elements to make it complete.
HOW DO YOU GET THE IDEAS OUT OF BRIDES SO THAT THEY DESCRIBE TO YOU EFFECTIVELY THEIR VISION FOR THEIR WEDDING DAY?
You ask each Bride what’s most important to them and why it’s important…Then you listen to their response and observe any emotion upon their description of their most important and Special Day, while guiding and helping them to bring that vision in to a reality…pay attention and remember it’s all about the details!
WHAT’S THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED, AND WOULD PASS ALONG TO OTHER NEW WEDDING PLANNERS JUST GETTING STARTED?
The biggest lesson that I have learned over the years is networking and building relationships with the vendors in the industry. There are times where we need help and thus help each other. Keeping yourself in the presence of your event professionals is a key role in people getting to you as a wedding planner.
ARE THERE ANY TRENDS THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE OR WOULD LOVE TO SEE BRIDES LEAVE BEHIND?
I absolutely love a dramatic entrance. Nothing sets off an event as an exciting first impression. Whether if its elaborate floral decor entry or a classic red affair. Rest assured your guest will be impressed from the beginning!
HOW DO YOU ENSURE A BRIDE AND GROOM’S PERSONALITY IS REFLECTED IN THE WEDDING, RATHER THAN THE WEDDING PLANNER’S PERSONALITY?
I make sure that all my couples personality is reflected by listening and then executing the details that what makes them their own personality. It’s really about the smallest detail that allows the guest to recognize their couple’s characters.
WHAT TIPS OR ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO COUPLES WHO ARE IN THE MIDST OF PLANNING?
Hire a professional wedding planner and a establishing a money-spending plan is a great must. You will make your planning so much easier simply by hiring an event planner professional.
ANY GREAT STORIES FROM WORKING WITH A CLIENT?
This rarely happens but this particular couple, we became great friends during and right after the wedding. They own a dental practice and thanks to my bride my smile has been renewed.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR JOB?
My most favorite part of all my weddings is when the bride walks down the aisle and all eyes are on her. When vows are exchange, they’re the most integrate part of the whole wedding day. It’s beautiful to witness every time.
…AND THE WORST BIT?
At the end of the evening my feet are sore! lol
